About the Story
The story, 'The Friendly Mongoose' is taken from the famous story book 'Panchatantra' written in 200 BC by Vishnu Sharma. The story revolves around the theme, that 'Haste makes waste'. Sometimes in haste we make big mistakes that inflict immense loss to us. Therefore we should try not to do any act in haste.
Questions
1: Why did the farmer bring a baby mongoose into the house?
Answer: The farmer and his wife wanted to have a companion for their baby to play with. That is why farmer brought a baby mongoose into the house.
2. Why didn’t the farmer’s wife want to leave the baby alone with the mongoose?
Answer: Because the farmer's wife was scared that the mongoose might harm her child.
3. What was the farmer’s comment on his wife’s fears?
Answer: The farmer assured his wife about the friendly nature of mongoose. The farmer also said that the mongoose was as sweet as their baby and they were best friends.
4. Why did the farmer’s wife strike the mongoose with her basket?
Answer: Farmer's wife saw the mongoose at the door with his face and paws covered with blood when she returned from field. She thought that the mongoose had killed her baby. In anger, she hit the mongoose with her heavy basket.
5. Did she repent her hasty action? How does she show her repentance?
Answer: Yes, when she realised that the mongoose had actually saved her son from a snake, she repented her hasty action . She ran out looking for the mongoose but it was already dead. She sobbed and felt extremely sorry for her hasty action.
6. Do you have a pet - a cat or a dog? If not, would you like one? How would you look after it? Are you for or against keeping birds in a cage as pets?
Answer: Yes, I do have a pet, a cat. I have named her Cutie. She is very dear to me. I always feed her myself. She would welcome me at the gate when I return home from school and would play for long time with me.
I bathe her, brush her teeth, comb her and took great care of her.
I am against keeping the birds in cage when they grow quite well. They are made to fly high in the sky. We should not confine them to cage. If we have fed them properly and affectionately they would surely come to us back.
